Most Catalina Island visitors are shocked when they hear that the island is home to a heard of American Bison that run wild in Catalina’s interior! What’s that good ole saying though? “Believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see.” So don’t just take my word for it, visit Catalina and have a look for yourself! Randy Lewis of Bike Catalina owns and operates an amazing self-guided mountain bike tour that provides an exclusive experience fro island visitors. Bike The Hills of Catalina is a mountain bike tour that starts in The City of Avalon and shuttles participants to Catalina Island’s only airport which is located approximately 9 miles out of the city. Guests will spend approximately 35 minutes in a private SUV as they are shuttled to The Airport in the Sky. During this time Randy likes to share some of his local stories as he gives a quick history of Catalina Island. Once at the airport, participants are provided their very own mountain bike (interior pass included) which they will use to adventure back to Avalon while riding along Catalina Island’s interior dirt roads. Luckily the majority of this ride is downhill and enjoyable! This is one of the coolest ways to get up close and personal with a Catalina bison. Don’t get too close though, these animals can be aggressive. This island adventure ends right in the heart of Avalon where it started and the duration is as long as it takes for you to get back.
